Solo travelers are on the rise - and the ladies are taking the lead

Beyonce is right, we do run the world!

Research suggests - female travelers are on the rise and they are embracing the experience solo.

I think this is great news! Why wait on others? Perhaps now is the time to step out of your comfort zone. And in case you need some convincing below are some key finders that indicate that the world is your oyster.

Looking at a 'Solo Travel' report from 2014 by Booking.com, 72% of American women revealed taking trips alone. The survey also pointed out that 65% of US women have holidayed without a partner.

‘Google’s Keyword Planner Tool’ showed that, between 2016 and 2017, the number of searches for ‘female solo traveler’ grew 52%.

In the UK, online behavioral research company Hitwise found that at the beginning of 2018, 55% of solo travel searches were made by women aged 25-34, and living in London.

Facebook community page 'Solo Travel Society' has over 240,000 fans and 63% of them are women, which may well be an indicator that we are indeed going on adventures much more than men.

84% of total solo travelers are women, according to a survey conducted by Condor Ferries

These numbers are encouraging and a positive sign that we women are embarking on more journeys with no fear. As someone who enjoys travelling, my only regret is not having hopped on a plane by myself sooner.

What is good to note though is that these days, we have way more information out there for people willing to take the plunge. From travel bloggers of Instagram to online communities - these resources are making it easier for us to make more informed decisions: from destinations to budget. And the best part of it seems to be the many testimonials we get from solo travelers giving all sorts of tips - from where to stay, what not to miss to where to eat.

But if the idea of taking a plane on your own still seems gloomy to you, please take a look at ‘Solo Traveler World’ - a website run by Janice Waugh and Tracey Nesbitt, this duo may arm you with all the advice you need to make that trip come true. Their personal stories and content are very inspirational and worth a browse!

What's stopping you? Be brave - you got this :)
